Yоur client, Sunny, Inc., mаnufаctures hiking, climbing, аnd camping gear tо be sоld at unrelated retail locations throughout Utah. You are working with the controller of Sunny, Inc. to make sure the organization is compliant under the UNICAP rules. The controller of Sunny has identified the following indirect costs that support the organization’s production activities (Step 2): •Officer’s compensation – Three officers employed by Sunny perform both inventory and non-inventory related activities •Purchasing expenditures – the purchasing department at Sunny is responsible for purchasing the raw materials used in production, fixed assets, and office supplies •Personnel operations - Sunny maintains a human resources department responsible for recruiting, hiring, and training both administrative (office) employees and employees who work in the manufacturing facility The controller has sufficient UNICAP knowledge to identify these additional costs that must be included in inventoriable costs for tax purposes, but is unsure where to go from here. You know that the next step in the UNICAP process (Step 3) is allocating these additional costs between production and non-production activities. Sunny has some options regarding this allocation process. Explain the different methods Sunny can use to perform the allocation (be comprehensive in your response). Provide suggestions for each indirect cost listed above. Discuss the benefits/disadvantages of implementing each alternative method (15 points).
