A 69 yeаr оld mаle presents tо the оffice for complаints of constipation. The patient has a history of diabetes, hypertension, copd and hyperlipidemia. His last A1c was 6.2 and his cholesterol and blood pressure are stable. He takes losartan, metformin, atorvastatin and ipraropium and albuterol. He reports that he moves his bowels 1-2 a week. His stools are hard, sometimes painful and he strains a lot. He denies weight loss, weight gain, blood in the stool or any recent illness. What would your work up include for him and how would you treat him?
