CASE STUDY 4:  Yоu аre а grоup leаder wоrking with a group of 15- to 17-year-old boys and girls at a summer adventure camp.  The youth are all in custody and living outside of their homes and have come from many different communities.  All have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect.  Youth from the same communities know one another and have existing relationships.  Most of the group members do not know one another.  You will have the group together for 5 days.  The goal of the program is to support the development of safe risk taking and exploration of what it means to be ready for adult living responsibilities.  Many of the youth will be emancipated from provincial custody when they turn 18.  Although you don’t know any of the youth well, you are aware that some will probably have learning disabilities, many will be struggling with self-image issues, and others may be well adjusted and high functioning.
