A heart murmur is noted and tests reveal hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (dilated heart). Tests show increased glycolytic and TCA cycle enzyme levels. Pyruvate dehydrogenase activity was also normal. Heart mitochondria were isolated and tested with either succinate (generates FADH2) or pyruvate (generates primarily NADH) as a substrate.
