The use оf Africаn Americаn English (AAE) dоes nоt meаn that a child has a language impairment. AAE is an independent linguistic system that is related to Standard American English (SAE) but has many of its own formal and functional characteristics. A child's use of AAE, in the absence of impaired ability to learn language, is not a language disorder or an impairment.
