The Black freedom struggle is filled with stories of sorrow and injustice, as well as triumph and heroism. Using the four major themes we discussed (education, leadership, violence, and activism), give examples of each, explaining how the ebbs and flows of the movement kept it going. How is civil rights often oversimplified in American history and American memory to the point of getting the story wrong? 5. 1968 was one of the most pivotal and terrible years in all of American history. What all occurred in this single year that made many question whether our nation would survive? Be sure to discuss both foreign and domestic events and the impact they had on society, describing at least three in significant detail.
