Test 2, Essаy 2 (20 pоints): Jаmes 1:22-25 (NRSVUE) stаtes: "But be dоers оf the word and not merely hearers who deceive themselves. 23 For if any are hearers of the word and not doers, they are like those who look at themselves in a mirror; 24 for they look at themselves and, on going away, immediately forget what they were like. 25 But those who look into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and persevere, being not hearers who forget but doers who act—they will be blessed in their doing." General Instructions: Write 300+ words referencing from memory at least three resources or insights from class. You can also reference more than three class selections and write as long as the test time permits. You do not need to limit yourself to selections required for all students, you can also discuss Ethical Faithfulness, Faith Permeation, or Controversies in Ethics options. As with other parts of this test, essays are closed notes / closed book / no internet / no AI consulting, etc. Address Parts 1-3 below, especially Part 3 to maximize points. Ask the Holy Spirit for strength to follow through on your actions, and, if fruitful, someone to assist in keeping you accountable: Part 1. How has your ethical decision-making, moral reasoning, or awareness evolved by interacting with specific discussions, readings, lessons, clips, quotes, theories, etc., from LOB 3013 in the second half (Weeks 5-8) of the sub term?Part 2. How have these specific discussions, readings, lessons, clips, quotes, theories, etc., prompted you to reconsider a conviction, enriched your ethical faithfulness, helped you perceive a controversy in new light, or raised awareness about various stakeholders?Part 3. Most significantly, what concrete actions do your selections prompt or inspire for you? Concrete actions must be specific, actionable, and/or measurable. Consider the examples below. Do not cut and paste them (as another test taker did previously) but write your own authentic personal responses to three or more class materials in Parts 1-2 that were most meaningful or helpful to you. Example of a Measurable and Specific Action 1: "Kent Nerburn's encounter driving the woman to hospice has reminded and inspired me to call my elderly grandmother once a week who lives in a nursing home. Since she can only receive postal mail, but not online or text messages, I will also mail her one handwritten letter each month to bless her as she nears the end of her life. When I don't want to call her, I will pray for God's perspective and joy in conversing with her. I will pray to be blessed by her in our conversations about the life she lived and our family history that I would not otherwise have known." (This is a plan for concrete, specific, ethical action). Weak and Unmeasurable Example 1: "As a result of reading Kent Nerburn, I will be kind to the elderly more often. We will all be elderly or dead one day, and I know that God wants me to be nice to the elderly and I will try to think about that more in my family relationships" (This merely expresses a vague sentiment or intention and offers no specific, concrete, or measurable action). Example of a Measurable and Specific Action 2: The following is specific, measurable, and actionable: "After learning about the five love languages, I recognize that my sister will feel more loved by me if I hug her once every time I see her -- which I will do -- because physical affection is her love language, even though it is not my love language and her neediness irritates me."  Weak and Unmeasurable Example 2: "Love languages have taught me to be more loving to different types of people. We are all different and diverse, and this was an essential reminder of the significance of that. I mean, some people like to get and give gifts while others prefer quality time and we need to accept that." (This abstract virtue signaling offers no specific concrete action plan). Example of a Measurable and Specific Action 3: "After watching 'Navigating the American Healthcare System,' and listening to Doris Day's 'It's later than you think,' I will exercise in a fun way three times a week, eat at least two servings of vegetables I like each day unless I don't have access to them, and set aside 10% of my gross salary each pay period for end of life travel and medicine so that I enjoy retirement more, and so I am less likely to financially burden my children or other relatives, and I will perhaps be able to bless THEM financially instead. As a result of viewing 'Charles Message to the World' to protect the vulnerable, I will trust God to provide, cultivate self-discipline in my spending, and specifically donate 10% of my gross salary every pay period by setting up automatic withdrawals in my checking account or credit card to charities such as the International Justice Mission, World Relief, Compassion International, or World Vision that take care of children in poverty, as well as victims of disaster and human trafficking."  Weak and Unmeasurable Example 3: (The following is NOT specific, measurable, or actionable): "After watching 'Charles Message to the World,' I realize that I need to prioritize my faith more, listen more, think about my future more, and help people who are vulnerable more, and donate money more often when I'm asked. The reading really helped me to understand how important these are." (These are all vague, sentimental intentions that offer no specific or measurable action plan. They are equivalent to ethical "white noise"). ACTIONABLE answers that are measurable and specific like those above will maximize points. Answers that are NOT actionable, NOT specific or NOT measurable, or that merely parrot or lip-sync virtue signaling like weak examples above will receive less or no credit.
