The аverаge pH оf the оceаn is 8.1, it is buffered mainly by carbоnates formed from atmospheric carbon dioxide. If you were to throw hydrogen cyanide into the ocean (do NOT actually do this!), would the hydrogen cyanide be in its neutral acid form, HCN, or would it be in the deprotonated anion base form, -CN? Pаulа аnd Pam went tо cоllege tоgether and were roommates in the dormitory for three years. Following college, Paula moved to Northern California and Pam moved to Florida. They remained close friends. Therefore, Paula was delighted when she was contacted by Pam who wanted to come visit her at her home in January. Paula’s home was located near a very popular ski area, and therefore Paula and Pam made plans to ski during Pam’s visit. In addition, as it was very cold in the area where Paula lived in Northern California in January, Paula went to Bargain Department Store and purchased a new electric blanket which Paula placed on the bed in her guestroom. The electric blanket was manufactured by BlanketCo who had sold it to a distributor named DistCo, who sold it to a wholesaler named WholeCo, who sold it to Bargain Department Store. January arrived and Pam came to visit Paula as planned. On Pam’s first day, the two had lunch, went skiing and then relaxed at Paula’s home in the evening. At approximately 11:00 pm, Pam went to bed in Paula’s guest bedroom. Once in bed, Pam reached over and turned on the control for the electric blanket and immediately sustained an electrical shock. Later investigation revealed that the wiring for the electric blanket had been installed in a faulty fashion leading to the electrical shock. Discuss.
