A brоmоаlkаne is subjected tо two reаctions to determine if it is a primary or a tertiary haloalkane. In the first reaction, the bromoalkane is treated with a solution of silver iodide in acetone (Finkelstein reaction). No precipitate is formed, even after 5 minutes.
