Pаrkinsоn's Diseаse (PD) is the secоnd mоst common neurodegenerаtive disease after Alzheimer's Disease.  It causes slow, labored movement, and difficulties starting movement sequences. The multi-sensory stimulation of dance therapy (choreographed movements to music) has been shown to be an effective form of physical therapy for PD. However, these dance protocols have mostly relied on Western formal dances like waltz, two-step, and foxtrot as dance therapies. When these treatment protocols have been tried with patients outside of European cultural traditions, the gains aren't as noticeable. Here is results from a 2024 study showing the impact of 12 week Garba Dance therapy (high energy dance you'd seen in a Bollywood movie) on PD patients from South Asian (Indian / Pakistani / Bangladeshi) heritage, compared to patients of similar ethnic heritage who received traditional physical therapy or no treatment at all.In language the average high school graduate could understand, explain the results of the study. What are the differences between the groups in PD symptoms? (Higher numbers on the UPDRS scale mean more PD symptoms.)
