Fоllоwing аre five (5) essаy questiоns. Pleаse choose three (3) questions to answer (each for 10 points, I may award 11 points for exceptional answers ). Each may be answered in either bullet points or sentence form, whichever is more appropriate. In addition, be sure to develop your thoughts as necessary; I will be grading you on the accuracy and comprehensiveness of your answer. If you have an opportunity to have an opinion or take a stand on something, I prefer you to take a stand and defend your stance rather than playing the middle ground. You MUST provide answers based on the theory, concepts, and terminology we have discussed in class. Some questions will allow you considerable freedom in your response, but these responses must be accurate based on the information from class. In other words, don’t just B.S. or make stuff up. Read the questions very carefully and be sure to answer ALL portions of the question. At the beginning of each response, put the number of the prompt you are answering (for example: 2. 'your response to essay 2') Pick 3 of the following 5 questions to answer: 1) Imagine you are promoted to be the plant manager of a frozen foods manufacturing plant. Through internal surveys you have discovered that your employees generally are not motivated and are displeased with the performance management system that is in place. The current performance management system involves a single end of year performance evaluation, and any other type of performance management is solely at the discretion of the various supervisors in the plant, and many do not engage in any type of performance management whatsoever. Using at least two theories of motivation, discuss how the poor performance management system and employee motivation may be related in your organization. How might a poor performance management system impact team effectiveness in your plant? Briefly describe an updated performance management system you would install in the company and the role it would play in increasing employee motivation. 2) In a recent internal survey, employees in a work group you supervise indicated they have very low cohesion and that group communication is suffering. Your boss wants you to fix this. First, describe what team cohesion is and how/why it may relate to group communication Then, describe (not list) three ways in which you will increase the cohesiveness of this group. Then tell me if group cohesiveness is always a good thing (and if not, tell me when, if ever, it is not a good thing). 3) Effective communication is a primary concern of organizational leaders. Discuss how the selection of communication media may influence the effectiveness of the communication. Consider communication in a virtual team. How is communication likely similar or different than communication in a traditional face to face team? Be sure to consider the role of trust How might effective communication be related to at least two theories of motivation? 4) Equity theory and expectancy theory are two prominent theories meant to explain motivational processes within an organization. In your own words, describe each theory and how they are used to explain employee motivation. What about team motivation? How might an organizational culture that supports effective communication relate to the facets of each theory? Which theory do you prefer and why? 5) You are the leader of a team that is unmotivated, has poor communication, and typically engages in group think (ruh roh Shaggy!). Consider how team composition (e.g., group properties) may be a contributor to each of these issues. In your answer be sure to consider: At least 3 group properties (e.g., size, roles, norms, status, cohesiveness) At least 1 specific theory of motivation Communication channels and media richness More generally, how team composition, motivation, communication, and group think may be interconnected In the below space, type the number of the essay you are answering and your response.
