Questions

Is there а relаtiоnship between the heights оf fаthers and their firstbоrn biological daughters?  To answer this, I randomly chose 11 measurements from an actual data set*.  The linear correlation coefficient between the height of the father and the height of the firstborn daughter is 0.431. The mean height of the fathers was 69.1 inches and the mean height of the daughters was 65.0 inches.  The linear regression equation for the data is Daughter = 32.7+0.47(Father), using Daughter and Father instead of y and x. Is there sufficient evidence of a linear correlation between the height of a father and his firstborn biological daughter?  Use a 0.05 significance level and thoroughly support your answer using the table below.  Find the best prediction of the height of a daughter if the father is 70 inches tall.  Do not round. *Actual data listed in the your textbook from the journal of Francis Galton (1822-1911), initiator of the ideas of standard deviation, regression line and correlation.
