Dаn D. Dumpsterdiver (DDD) rummаges in the Sаlvatiоn Army dоnatiоn bin one cold night. He sees nothing but a few blankets and pillows. Feeling chilly and homeless, he decides to climb in for a decent night's rest. Several hours later, he is awakened by voices in the alley. "Hey, let's see if we can take anything good out of here," says one with a drunken slur. DDD pokes his out and sees a group of five young men. He recognizes one as Gary Gooddeeds (GG,) known to all the local street people for his extensive volunteer work in the soup kitchen. DDD also recognizes another, Mickey Meaney (MM,) a star athlete whose picture is often in the newspaper. "Let's trash this dumpster!" yells MM, and DDD recognizes his voice as the same one that spoke a moment earlier. "Hello boys, and good morning to you," says DDD. Startled, the young men all run off. A few minutes later MM returns by himself. First he spray paints the words "Hobo's House" on the side of the donation bin. Next he reaches into the bin, grabs DDD's hat and puts it on his own head. Then he begins pushing the donation bin, still occupied by DDD, and rolls it up and down the alley. "Hey old man, how's this for a free ride?" taunts MM. "I'm going to push this dumpster up against the wall, so you won't be able to get out. Hah!" MM then jams the bin up against the wall, effectively sealing off any means of escape for DDD. In doing this, DDD's fingers are smashed between the wall and the rim of the donation bin, and begin to bleed profusely. An hour later GG returns to check on DDD. He immediately sees the bin pushed up against the wall, and to his horror he hears DDD calling for help. He pushes the bin away from the wall, frees DDD, and rushes the old man up to the hospital. "He'll be alright," the doctor tells GG, "but we'll have to amputate a couple of his fingers because of the injuries to them." GG sees that DDD is properly cared for, and then he goes to the police to report what happened in the alley.
