English C1000 - Essаy 5: The First Timed Argument Essаy Assignment Sоme оf the greаtest debates in American histоry have surrounded those activities that the government considers to be destructive to society – that is, unnecessary recreational activities that often have devastating consequences to those who partake in them (such debates, for instance, led to the prohibition of alcohol, and the subsequent repeal of those prohibition laws). Two of these “sinful” activities are listed below. Determining whether or not to allow these activities is often a matter of balancing our desire to grant people the right to live their lives the way they want to live them with the desire to maintain public safety and/or decency. Please choose one of these sinful activities, and make an argument about whether or not you think it should be allowed. Option 1: Do you think that the local government should allow more casinos to be built in and around the Imperial Valley? Option 2: Should prostitution be legalized in the United States? Organization: Your essay should be made up of multiple arguments, each supporting your thesis. Those arguments should be separated into the various paragraphs of your essay. Your thesis should follow the three-point formula we discussed in class. Remember, each body paragraph should explore one new point in support of your main idea. Use topic sentences to tell your reader what each paragraph is about. Don’t forget to include pre-writing (pro and con list and brief outline). The prewriting will factor into your grade. Follow the introduction and conclusion strategies you learned about in class. You will also need a 3-part refutation paragraph. You must NOT use any outside source materials or tools to aid you in writing this essay. This is a test of your ability to use logic and the various concepts of the course to produce an essay response, which is why the topic options are relatively simple. There are no sources required or allowed. Any source material found in the essay, even if properly cited, will constitute a violation of the rules of the exam, and will result in a score of zero. Any use of A.I., whether for generating or for in any way altering/editing writing presented in this essay, will also result in a score of zero.  I'm looking for the best response you can produce in the time provided. For most English C1000 students, this usually comes out to around 6 - 8 paragraphs. Good Luck!
