In аn effоrt tо understаnd cаuses оf algal blooms in coastal Rhode Island, researchers conducted an experiment in estuarine mesocosms.  They set up 8 mesocosms, 2 replicates of each treatment (see table with treatments below).  After several weeks, they measured chlorophyll a (as a measure of algal productivity).  This is a preliminary study, but for our purposes, let's assume the differences across treatments are real.   Abbreviation Treatment C No nutrients added.   N Nitrogen added.
