In 2024, there wаs аn оutbreаk оf Salmоnella in the coastal region of North Carolina. Over a period of a few weeks, 20 cases of salmonella were reported to the County Health Departments, and most of the infected persons were residents of Nags Head, NC. Dare County Health Department requested help identifying the source from the state Bureau of Epidemiology. The investigators quickly performed descriptive epidemiology. The epidemic curve indicated a point source epidemic, and most of the cases lived in the Outer Banks area, although some lived as far away as Plymouth. They conducted hypothesis-generating interviews, and taken together, the descriptive epidemiology suggested that the source was one of five or six food establishments in the Nags Head area, but it wasn't clear which one. Consequently, the investigators wanted to conduct an analytic study to determine which restaurant was the source. Which analytic study design should be conducted?
