Cаse Study 1: Michаel   Michаel is an eleven-year-оld child whо has becоme increasingly frustrated with school. He is about to enter the sixth grade and has had continuous problems with reading, writing, and comprehension. During the school’s newly implemented reading fluency screenings, Mrs. Dabney noticed Michael had difficulty reading passages aligned to his grade level. Mrs. Dabney instead read the passages aloud to Michael. He could then proficiently answer all the comprehension questions associated with the text. After a referral from Mrs. Dabney, the school psychologist performed a diagnostic evaluation. The test showed that Michael fell within the average to high range in intelligence (WISC-V score of 120). Michael was then given a comprehensive structural analysis of reading skills and was determined to have a severe form of dyslexia.  Next week, Michael’s grandmother, the school psychologist, the principal, the special education teacher, and you (the homeroom teacher) will meet to discuss the intervention. You have recently read about the advancements in computer-assisted instruction regarding learning disabilities and wish to address the topic during the meeting.    What are some of the characteristics of a person with dyslexia? Which characteristics did Michael display?   As a general classroom teacher, what specific things can you do within your classroom to ensure you are serving Michael based on his specific learning needs?   NOTE: To receive FULL points, please use complete sentences, two to three sentences per question, and have a general and meaningful understanding and reflection of the case.
