Hоnоrlоck will be used to proctor online Lecture аnd Lаb Exаms in this course. Honorlock is an online proctoring service that allows you to complete assessments remotely. You DO NOT need to create an account or schedule an appointment. To complete an Honorlock-proctored assessment, you must have: A computer (no iPads or tablets as the primary testing device). A working webcam and microphone. A stable internet connection. A valid photo ID (STC ID, school ID, driver's license, passport, etc.). Google Chrome with the Honorlock Chrome Extension. A full-length mirror for all Lecture and Lab Exams. Students are responsible for ensuring that their equipment, internet connection, and testing environment meet these requirements before beginning an assessment. Honorlock Authentication & Workspace Verification Before beginning an exam, Honorlock will require you to complete an authentication process, which may include verifying your identity and testing environment. If you have a smartphone, Honorlock may provide a QR code that allows you to submit a single, wide-angle photo of your workspace. The photo must clearly show your computer, desk, surrounding testing area, and anything within arm's reach. No Honorlock app download is required. Once the Workspace Scan is completed, your phone must be placed completely out of sight and out of arm's reach and may not be accessed during the exam. If you do not have a smartphone, you will not be prevented from taking the exam. Honorlock provides an option to complete a video room scan using your computer's webcam instead. When completing the room scan, you must follow all provided instructions, including using a mirror to show the reflection of your computer screen when required. Honorlock Workspace Scan Guide Full-Length Mirror — REQUIRED A full-length mirror is required for ALL Lecture and Lab Exams. The Honorlock Workspace Scan does not replace this requirement. The mirror must be positioned behind you or slightly to your side so that the webcam can clearly view the mirror's reflection. The reflection must adequately show: Both of your hands Your desk/workspace The testing area immediately accessible to you Simply having a mirror somewhere in the room is not sufficient. The mirror must provide a clear and useful view of the required testing area and must remain properly positioned throughout the entire assessment. Before beginning an exam, verify through your webcam preview that BOTH your hands and workspace can be clearly seen in the mirror's reflection. If you do not have the required full-length mirror or cannot position it correctly, STOP and contact your instructor. DO NOT begin the exam. Failure to have the required full-length mirror properly positioned so that the required testing area can be adequately viewed throughout the assessment will result in a ZERO on the assessment. Detailed room scan and mirror setup expectations are available here: Honorlock Testing Guidelines & Mirror Setup During the Exam Honorlock records your webcam, microphone, and computer screen during the assessment. You must remain visible and in your testing area until the exam is submitted. The following are prohibited: Notes, books, study guides, or unauthorized reference materials. Accessing a cell phone after Honorlock authentication is complete. Smartwatches, tablets, secondary computers, or other unauthorized electronic devices. Unauthorized websites, browser tabs, applications, or programs. Multiple monitors. Receiving assistance or communicating with another person. Leaving the testing area before submitting the exam. Blocking or intentionally leaving the webcam view. Moving, covering, blocking, or improperly positioning the required mirror. Reading exam questions aloud. Recording, photographing, copying, or otherwise capturing exam content. Headphones or earbuds. Music, television, excessive noise, or other unnecessary distractions. Only the student registered for the course may complete the assessment, and no other person should be present in the testing environment. The assessment must be completed in one sitting. Intentionally selecting "Save and Close" or exiting the assessment before submission is prohibited and will result in a ZERO. Testing Environment Students must maintain an environment that allows the instructor to adequately review the testing session. Use a desk or table rather than a bed, couch, or your lap. Keep your face clearly visible to the webcam. Keep the room adequately illuminated and avoid strong backlighting. Keep your desk and surrounding area clear of unauthorized materials. Do not adjust your webcam or computer screen in a way that removes you or the required mirror from view. Maintain the required mirror view throughout the assessment. Select a quiet, distraction-free environment. Follow all Honorlock prompts and instructor testing instructions. Students must also wear appropriate attire consistent with an in-person classroom environment. Clothing must be opaque and non-revealing, and shirts and bottoms must be worn throughout the assessment. Testing Protocol Violations — Minimum 30% Deduction A testing protocol violation occurs when required procedures are not properly followed or when testing conditions limit the instructor's ability to adequately verify exam integrity. Examples include: Improper or incomplete Workspace Scan/room scan. Poor lighting or camera positioning. Frequently or partially moving outside the required webcam view. Unauthorized materials visible in the testing area when there is no evidence they were used. Failure to follow Honorlock or instructor testing procedures. Testing protocol violations may result in a minimum 30% deduction. Multiple or significant violations may result in additional deductions or consequences. A violation may also be reported to the College when deemed appropriate by the instructor. The full-length mirror requirement is an exception to the general 30% protocol penalty. If the required mirror is missing or is not properly positioned so that the required testing area can be adequately viewed throughout the assessment, the exam will receive a ZERO. Confirmed Academic Dishonesty — Automatic Zero Confirmed use of unauthorized assistance, materials, devices, or resources will result in an automatic ZERO on the assessment and will be referred through the College's Academic Integrity process. Examples include: Using unauthorized notes or study materials. Accessing or using a cell phone after authentication. Using another unauthorized electronic device. Receiving assistance from another person. Accessing unauthorized websites, applications, browser tabs, or programs. Intentionally leaving or obstructing the camera/mirror view to access unauthorized materials or assistance. Recording, photographing, copying, or capturing exam content. Any other confirmed act of cheating or academic misconduct. An Honorlock flag does not automatically establish academic dishonesty. The instructor will review the available recording, Workspace Scan, mirror view, screen recording, Honorlock information, and other relevant evidence when determining whether a violation occurred. Side-Angle Camera A side-angle camera is not required unless you are specifically notified that it has been enabled for an assessment. If enabled, a compatible secondary device, such as a smartphone or tablet, will be required and must be positioned according to Honorlock's instructions to provide a clear view of your hands, keyboard, computer, workspace, and surrounding testing area. Additional testing-security measures, including a required side-angle camera, may be implemented for future assessments when repeated testing protocol violations or testing irregularities prevent adequate verification of exam integrity. Honorlock Side-Angle Camera Instructions Technical Problems & Support If your computer freezes or crashes during an exam, do not intentionally submit the assessment. Restart your computer and return to the exam as soon as possible. The exam timer may continue running. Document error messages when possible and contact Honorlock Support or your instructor as soon as possible.
