Make sure to write in present tense, and avoid using personal pronouns like “I,” “me,” or “you.” This is a formal essay.You should have an intro, a thesis statement, support, and a conclusion. You do not need a heading, title, or works cited page; however, you must utilize in-text citations. You must use at least two of the four sources to support your argument. Hooker - “Censoring Violence in Media” by Adam D. Thierer Respond on looseleaf to ONE of the following two questions: Books have been banned for exploring controversial topics for centuries around the world. Some Americans celebrate those books in commencement of their changes and movements and for shedding light on previously taboo subjects. However, in many school libraries in America, books are still banned because they may include sensitive or potentially-inappropriate information, such as sex, crime, or violence. In a well-developed essay, argue whether or not censorship should be allowed in school libraries. Give specific reasons and examples to support your position. Make sure to incorporate at least two of the assigned readings. Many argue that the sexual and/or violent content in TV, films and video games, as well as the content on social media, is negatively effecting today’s society and consequently should be censored. Others argue that this content does not have control over people’s actions and censoring would be an assault on freedom of expression.
