CO (carbon monoxide) is an odorless, colorless toxic gas that forms from incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons. CO has a very high affinity for hemoglobin in that it binds over 1000x more tightly to hemoglobin in the RBCs than oxygen. With this in mind explain how CO is a poisonous gas in terms of external respiration, internal respiration and oxygen carrying capacity of RBCs.
