Write a paragraph that explains how Gehrig appeals to the audience’s emotions. What rhetorical devices does he/she use to convey the message? I will be assessing your analytical and writing skills in this paragraph. I will also be checking your ability to cite using APA. Use the following template as you write your response to the questions above: The author uses device to appeal to the audience’s emotions. For example, he/she *use a quote (cite properly in APA) that contains the device here, and then explain how the device adds to the intended meaning. Additionally, the author uses device to appeal to the audience’s emotions. *Use textual evidence (cite in APA) that contains the device here, and then explain how the device adds to the intended meaning. Sample Paragraph from the Bush example: President Bush (2001) uses the imagery of the attacks to appeal to the audience’s emotions. For example, he reminds Americans of “airplanes flying into buildings, fires burning, [and] huge—huge structures collapsing” to evoke a sense of sadness within and anger from his audience. He notes that such horrific scenes have led to “disbelief, terrible sadness, and a quiet, unyielding anger” (Bush, 2001). By reminding the audience of these events, Bush makes the audience feel connected because they– as citizens of America– have been attacked and reasonably share similar emotions. He is implying that they share these feelings. Additionally, Bush (2001) compares America to a “light” that cannot be extinguished so that his audience will feel a sense of hope. Light is a symbol of life and hope, and Bush (2001) emphasizes that, despite the evil attacks that were meant to snuff out the light, America will continue to be “the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world.” His words lead the audience to believe that America’s bright light, endless resolve, and unified strength will see her through these dark days. Write your paragraph below: **DO NOT write on Bush’s speech; analyze GEHRIG’s speech.
