I want to test a drug to determine if it increases a student’s ability to remember important facts throughout the semester.  At the start of the semester, I give one group of 20 students a pill that contains the drug, called KnowItAll, and I give another group of 20 students a placebo (a pill that does not contain any drug).  On the final exam, I see that the students given KnowItAll have an average score of 95% on the exam, while the students given the placebo have an average score of 50% on the exam.  I conclude that KnowItAll does not improve student’s ability to remember important facts.  What is wrong with this experiment?

I promise that while taking the test, I will not use any external sources (textbook, lab manual, websites, other students, etc).  I will also not assist any other students while they are taking the test. I understand that if I plagiarize, copy answers, help other students on the test, or receive help from other students on the test, I will get a 0 on the test for my grade, and will have to report to the Dean of Student Services for disciplinary action.
