Joe’s asthma has been well-controlled for the past 6 months on  controller therapy of Advair 250mcg/50mcg and short-acting beta-agonist (SABA) as needed.  Today he presents with complaint of an upper respiratory infection (URI) that started 1 week ago.  Reports frequent, nonproductive cough that keeps him awake and increased wheezing that requires use of her SABA MDI 6-8 times daily.  Denies fever, chills, nausea or vomiting. It has been suggested during our LTPs that the synthesis of p-nitroaniline from aniline requires a 3 step process.    a) Explain why direct EAS nitration of aniline fails to produce p-nitroaniline (provide two reasons). b) Propose a 3 step process to obtain p-nitroaniline from aniline.  You can provide either the name, molecular formulas, or accurate shorthand notations of the reagents you need, but you MUST provide the organic nomenclature for each intermediate product formed at the end of each step.
