Jeffrey Winger, a former U.S. Marine, has been struggling with depression and anxiety since returning from combat duty in Iraq. While walking down the sidewalk in his neighborhood, he sees a plastic bag in the gutter that reminds him of an IED (Improvised Explosive Device).  He sprints towards the bag and purposely knocks Brita Perry off of her longboard as she rolls by the supposed IED. He doesn’t want her to set off the bomb. Brita suffers a broken collarbone and calls the police. Jeffrey is arrested for (F) Battery. It turns out the bag was just litter and did not contain a bomb. What defense should Jeffrey use in Court?
