Comtemporary readers may be turned off by this characteristic from Beowulf.  

According to the video, it was thought that the Beowulf story was memorized by an unknown man some time before 1,000 AD; this man pr0bably went to monks who copied the manuscript out on fragile paper with a quill pen! This manuscript, obviously, took a long time.  

Taverns, medieval venues for food, drink, and society,  are a favorite place where this person goes, supposedly to spread the word of God.  

A hard-working, independent, free-spirited scholar of God is how this character would like to present himself / herself; unfortunately, there is more “than meets the eye.”  

The Canterbury Tales  is from this time period.  

There is a quote, “By St. Loy!” that can be attributed to this religious pilgrim.

A fair assessment of the Knight, Squire, and Yeoman would be to classify them as a “military unit.”  

This religious character is quite feeble and being taken to Canterbury in a sort of primitive wheelchair.
