Mary, a Native American woman, just turned 33 years old and lives in Tampa, Florida. Mary has brown hair, brown eyes, and medium skin tone. She has several moles on her back, arms, and legs that she calls “beauty marks” since she was born with them. Recently she noticed one of the moles looked a little different than usual but has not made it to the doctor yet to have it checked. Mary grew up with three brothers and spent most of her childhood outdoors playing sports and different games with them. Mary’s mom and dad live close to her and they have family gatherings at least once a week. Her dad is pretty healthy (so he thinks – he has not been to the doctor in a while but has no complaints). Her mom has Type II diabetes and is overweight. Mary finished graduate school and has a part-time job but is still looking for a full time position. She has not been to a doctor in a while because she currently does not have health insurance. Since she only works part-time she is able to spend a lot of time with friends. They go out several times a week for happy hour Mary only goes to places where her favorite drink, a pomegranate martini, is served! Mary is a “social smoker” and says she only smokes when she drinks. Mary considers herself to be in good shape. She exercises in her outdoor adventures and dances a lot when she is out with her friends. She says that her eating habits are mostly healthy, except for the nights when she is eating out with friends. She is not super concerned about what she eats because she still looks great! Mary does not have a boyfriend but is happy being single. List four risk factors (modifiable and/or non-modifiable) for these chronic diseases that you just listed (one for each).
