Conjunctive adverbs are adverbs that serve as nouns.

But is a preposition only when it means “also.” In other cases, but is an adverb.

Adverbs that end in y change their y to i before adding a noun, pronoun, or past participle.

Descriptive adjectives describe or tell “what kind of.” 

Coordinating and correlative conjunctions connect two or more items of equal grammatical rank.

A preposition is a connecting word. It connects a noun or a pronoun to the rest of the sentence.

The pronouns this, that, these, and those are demonstrative pronouns that can function as demonstrative adjectives.

Adverbs can be compared in much the same way as adjectives. 

Certain expressions have come to be considered “correct” even though there may be no rule or logical reason to make them so. Such usage is called idiomatic usage. 

Adverbs that have negative meanings, such as scarcely, hardly, only, never, and but, should not be used with other negatives.
