Michael Menser is a 22-years old red-shirt junior male collegiate basketball player who transfers from UNC. He c/c constant mild to moderately severe right low back pain that radiates to his right buttock and lateral thigh after sitting for more than 20 minutes and that is relieved to some degree by walking or lying down. He reports no numbness, tingling or weakness of the lower extremity. The pain started about 4 weeks ago before he moved to State College, PA, the morning after SS spent lifting heavy weights in YMCA at which time he woke up with sever low back pain and right lower extremity pain down to his lateral calf. He had similar problems in the past, but they always resolved fully after a day or two with active rest. He saw his orthopedist 3 weeks ago, and an MRI scan showed a mild posterolateral disc bulge at L5-S1 on the right. He spent PT for 2 weeks (6 sessions) before he arrived on campus. The objective exam is still significant restriction of lumbar AROM in forward bending and right bending, both of which cause increased right low back and lower extremity pain. Passive SLR on the right is limited by right lower extremity pain, and the left lower extremity is limited by hamstring tightness. Question 1. Perform goniometric measurements of active lumbar flexion, bilateral lateral flexion, bilateral hip flexion. Please state the known normative values for each motion.
