Scenario: The kindergarten you are working for has purchased tablets for the classroom. The principal and curriculum team are especially interested in using the tablets to enhance the science curriculum and have asked teachers to use the tablets for a range of science activities. They are also considering what science apps to purchase. One app is an app where children match an animal to the beginning letter of its name. When the child gets a correct match blinking stars are displayed. The other app allows children to collect data and to create and edit science journals and science-related stories. Which science app should the program purchase? Why?

Scenario: You visit a kindergarten classroom. The teacher says, “I like my space to look child-friendly. So I purchased colorful, cute materials from a school supply catalog.” Walls are covered with several store-purchased posters such as large number posters, giant shapes and colors, and a big birthday calendar. There are two teacher created bulletin boards, one has an apple tree and states-WE ARE APPLE-SOLUTELY AWESOME. Another bulletin board has colored paper leaves falling from a paper tree and states-FALL IN LOVE WITH LEARNING. The teacher states, “I spent so much time on choosing and placing the wall items and creating the bulletin boards, and the children don’t even seem to notice them.” You also note that the room contains tables, desks, and several bookshelves. The teacher mentions that the principal has given each teacher a budget to make the classroom more homelike. Why do you think the children are ignoring the materials on the walls?
