Here is where graders will enter the points from the paper portion of the exam  Q1  Q2  Q3     Feel free to type your favorite animal into the space, so Canvas won’t give you a warning about not completing a question. Be sure to complete both sides of the paper and turn it in with your name on the top.

Use the diagram and equation below to answer the questions.  The basic reproductive number (R0) of a disease is described by this equation         S=susceptible population     β=host transmission rate     α=disease induced death rate     d=susceptible host death rate     ν=recovery rate of infected individual   Which term indicates the lethality (virulence) of the disease [ans1] Which term indicates the per capita rate of movement of individuals from susceptible into the Infected pool? [ans2] Which term indicates the population of individuals who can get infected with the disease? [ans3] Which term indicates the population of  individuals who have had the disease and are now better and immune to the disease? [ans4] Which term indicates the correction for the fact that individuals who are sick are less likely to have offspring. [ans5] Which of these terms indicates per capita rate of movement of individuals who had a disease years ago, to the pool where they can now get it again? [ans6] As a disease evolves, which of these terms is likely to decrease because of evolutionary pressure? [ans7] As a disease evolves, which of these terms is likely to increase because of evolutionary pressure? [ans8]

Plants of the genus Rhizophora live in complex environments in areas in which the base of the trees are typically covered with water for some or all of the time. The areas at the base of the Rizophora trees provide habitat for a wide array of young fish species. These young fish provide food for numerous waterbirds that live and nest in the area. An ecologist is comparing the number of different species that live in areas with two different varieties of Rhizophora.  To study this, the ecologist finds 8 habitats dominated by Rhizophora species A, and 6 habitats dominated by Rhizophora species B and, through snorkeling and bird observations, counts the number of fish and bird species they see in each area. What kind of ecological study is described here.
