Final Reflection

Allied Chemical Products discovered a computer attack on the computer network on December 30th. They received a ransom demand letter, on December 31st. The insured began taking pre-cautions and immediately hired an IT cyber consultant to assist on restoring the data and preventing any further losses.  The IT consultant was able to fully restore the data and get the system operating safely. The consultant sent a bill to Allied Chemical for $82,000 to cover the cost of their services, plus the $250,000 ransom that was paid. Allied reported the claim and the sent the bills to their insurance company on March 20th requesting payment of the costs for the data restoration cost and the ransom payment. Allied has a $1,000,000 Cyber Defense liability policy with a $50,000 deductible per claim. The claim occurred in their current policy year.
