Dentаl hygiene students cоnducted а study tо cоmpаre the effectiveness of two nonalcohol rinses, Listerine Total Care Zero and Crest Pro Health, in controlling plaque biofilm and gingivitis. A sample of 136 healthy volunteers is taken from the University dental hygiene clinic. Only adults with no to mild periodontitis are accepted to participate in the study. The study participants are qualified for inclusion in the study by their biofilm forming potential and presence of mild gingivitis. Two groups are formed, and each participant receives the mouth rinse randomly assigned to him/her. Examiners are unaware of the formula used by each participant. Two examiners are calibrated in the use of the PI (plaque index) and GI (gingival index) to measure biofilm and gingivitis at baseline, 2 months and 4 months. During group assignment, the groups are matched for baseline scores to ensure that the two groups have equivalent oral hygiene. What type of Study is this?
