this Radical Republican was caned in Congress for verbally attacking an elderly senator from South Carolina; while not a cause of the Civil War, it demonstrated the hysteria  prevalent in the country

this repealed the old 3630 law

turning point of the Civil War; it is very unlikely that the South can win after this

everyone basically knew that George Washington would be the first president because he had been Commander and Chief of the Continental Army, and was so well resptected. 

While Congress was busy establishing the bureaucracy of the government, the were also creating the Supreme Court

in the early years of the Republic, candidates for president and vice president ran on the same ticket just as they do now
