What wavelengths of the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum can birds see but humans cannot?   Basic Physics. The colors of the electromagnetic spectrum visible to humans (i.e., visible light) are Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet (Roy G. Biv is the common mnemonic).  These colors correspond to different wavelengths of light; red has the longest wavelength at 635-700 nanometers (nm or 1×10-9 m) and violet has the shortest wavelenths (400–450 nm). Birds can see a wider range of the light spectrum than humans can.It is notable that this question is not hard but does requires thinking, not memorizing, as we did not discuss wavelengths in class.

Ecologists often use the Shannon-Weiner Index (H) to assess species diversity (biodiversity).  What factors does this index incorporate? (FYI, most of the indices or measure of biodiversity used by ecologists use these same factors, but the index is calculated in different ways)
