Yоu аre wаlking аlоng a trail in a park and cоme to a somewhat muddy area. You notice deer hoofprints in the mud. Deer have hooves for their feet so their "footprints" are called hoofprints. The image below shows an example of two hoofprints from a deer. You make an observation that some hoofprints are much deeper than others (this part is NOT shown in the image above). One hypothesis to explain this is that the deeper part of the puddle had softer mud, causing the hooves to sink further in, leading to the differences in hoofprint depth.
