Reading Passage for Final Writing Exam According to Dr. Carol Dweck, Mindset describes the beliefs that we hold about ourselves, and she has identified two very different types of mindset: Fixed Mindset and Growth Mindset. Moreover, her research suggests that people with a growth mindset tend to do better in school, work, and life than those with a fixed mindset. People with fixed mindsets tend to believe that they are born with specific levels of intelligence or talent. From their perspective, whatever they are born with is all they have to work with and no amount of effort can change that. For example, you may have heard people say things like, “I am not a math person,” or “I can’t learn computers.” They get fixed in their mindset that they can’t do anything to fix or grow their given levels of skill or ability, so they give up and tend to quit or blame their failures on inherited traits.
