Kаtrinа is а third grader whо оften has difficulty at schоol. Her grades are poor, and she doesn't have many friends. In addition, her parents have recently separated and her mother is very stressed with having to take care of Katrina and her two sisters by herself. During the day, Katrina tries to interact with her peers but this usually ends with Katrina telling the other children what she thinks they should do or trying to direct the way in which the other kids are playing. As a result, the other children have started to avoid Katrina, so she spends a large amount of the day alone. Over the past few weeks, Katrina has gone beyond trying to "direct" the way in which the other children play, and now has started to become more aggressive with her peers. Katrina has been fighting nearly everyday on the playground. One day she pushed another child when she was playing on the swing. Another day, she kicked a boy next to her during free time in class, and later hit a child in the face with a ball when the child wanted to stop playing soccer with her. Katrina receives a lot of attention from her teacher and other school personnel when she engages in these problem behaviors. When she is not acting out, the other children avoid her as much as possible. The third grade teacher spends a lot of time talking to Katrina about her behavior. When Katrina misbehaves, she is sent to the school psychologist for counseling and to the principal to discuss her misconduct. At this point, the only attention that Katrina is receiving is negative attention from her teacher, the school staff, and her peers.
