Here аre sоme terms yоu need tо know: The sаme Greek word is trаnslated either as “justification” or “righteousness.” God’s “righteousness” is the action that God takes to put people into right relationship with God. People are “justified” by an act of God---not by anything they do. God has acted in Jesus Christ to restore the relationship that was broken by humanity’s (Adam and Eve’s) rebellion. The “faith of Jesus Christ” (Gal 2.15-21) is the act of God that justifies human beings. Jesus’ faith (obedient self-surrender to the will of God) reverses humanity’s pattern of rebellion against God and makes right relationship with God possible for people who lost that relationship through disobedience. This new relationship is entered by individual human beings when they accept God’s offer by putting their trust (faith) in God as revealed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Human faith is the individual’s obedient self-surrender to the God who was made known through Jesus’ faith Redeem/redemption has to do with action taken to set free either a prisoner or a slave. When the price of redemption is paid, the slave or prisoner goes free.
