A mаn with аrteriоsclerоsis hаd a stent placed оne of his coronary arteries. This surgery is performed by threading the apparatus up through the femoral artery. The surgery returned normal blood flow to his heart. A week later, the man presented to the emergency room with bilateral leg paralysis and bilateral loss of pain and temperature sensation to most of his lower extremities. Reflex testing shows hyperreflexia of the myotatic reflex of the knee. Fine touch and proprioception are normal. On the other hand, he could still move both his feet.
