For instance, instead of thinking in terms of "proper and/or improper," we see language as "appropriate or inappropriate." Another example: Instead of thinking that student's "have problems with plurals, possessives, tenses, etc.," we should see the students as "following the grammar patterns of their home language." Why is this important?
