Karen also put the picture on a T-shirt and began selling t-shirts for profit on the corner of her block. Sullivan from the New York Times, unaware that Mary-Kate had an identical twin sister, published the photograph of Ashley the same day, with a caption that read, ”Cokehead for President?” The New York times reported that it had received the photograph of “Mary-Kate Smith anonymously earlier that day. Mary-Kate was distressed about the New York Times publication, and subsequently lost the election. There after Mary-Kate filed suits against Karen and the New York Times.
