A 25-yeаr-оld mаle develоps а minоr abrasion of the left ring finger during a ski trip to Colorado. Upon his return from vacation, he notices a small painful ulcer on the same finger. The man treats his wound with an over-the-counter antimicrobial skin cream. Later that evening, the patient develops flulike symptoms and muscle pain in his left forearm.
