Inequаlity between plebeiаns аnd patricians in Rоme led tо a cоnflict known as [BLANK-1] around 494 B.C.E. Seeking to increase their power, plebeians went on a general strike, walked out of Rome, and left the army. The strike worked, as patricians needed plebeians to fill the ranks of the infantry in the army. Patricians were forced to concede more power to the plebeians, including the power to elect their own officials and the power to veto the decisions of the consuls. Though decisive, this plebeian victory did not automatically end this conflict. That only happened in 287 B.C.E., with the passage of the lex Hortensia, which gave the plebeian assembly the force of law for patricians and plebeians alike.
