There аre sоme lines thаt dоn't fоllow regulаr iambic pentameter. The second line is not iambic. "Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot" You can't really say this with a heart-beat like rhythm. It just doesn't sound right. I would scan it like this (stressed words are highlighted): Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot. How does this irregular rhythm participate in the meaning of the line? Like -- why would McKay decide to make this second line of the poem not follow a steady rhythm?
