Operаtive Repоrt PREOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Elevаted prоstаte-specific antigen POSTOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Same PROCEDURE PERFORMED: Ultrasоund-guided prostate needle biopsy ANESTHESIA: General anesthesia COMPLICATIONS: None SPECIMENS REMOVED: 12 core needle biopsies of the prostate INDICATIONS: The patient is a 57-year-old male. He was found on recent labs to have an elevated PSA at the level of 4.5. He has therefore consented to prostate needle biopsy. DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURES: The patient was brought to the cystoscopy suite and moved into the lateral decubitus position. After smooth induction of general anesthesia, a digital rectal exam was performed. There were no nodules palpated. The prostate was smooth, firm, and benign-feeling. The ultrasound probe was then inserted into the rectum. There were no abnormalities seen on ultrasound. We then proceeded to take a total of 12 core needle specimens of the prostate, two from the right base, two from the right mid, two from the right apex, followed by two from the left base, two from the left mid, and two from the left apex. The patient tolerated the procedure well. There was minimal blood loss. The patient was transferred back to the post-anesthesia care unit in stable condition. He will be sent home with three days of antibiotics, and we will follow up on his pathology. Procedure code:
