Yоur essаy must be 1,000+ wоrds. Yоur essаy must closely engаge with the assigned text through direct quotation and analysis by incorporating at least four direct quotations, each followed by close analysis of the text’s language and meaning. Your essay should present a compelling, coherent, and specific thesis that is consistently and thoroughly developed. Summarizing the readings or relying on personal reaction will result in a lowered score or a grade of zero. Responses should omit personal reflection in favor of analysis and provide ample support from our readings. Exams that fall short of the minimum word count and/or fail to incorporate textual support (cited quotations) from our readings will suffer a significant grade reduction. Your work will be graded on the quality of your ideas as well as your writing. Criteria for grading include completeness, thoughtfulness, and development and support of a particular argument. Per the plagiarism policy, you must cite ideas that are not your own. You must include MLA format in-text citations. The following deductions will apply: 1) Missing textual support (quotations) from the primary text= -20% of the grade 2) Short of the word requirement= loses points based on percentage short (ex: an essay of 500 words can receive up to 50% credit with 1,000 words required) Prompts (select ONE): 1) Using In the Time of the Butterflies, consider how Alvarez depicts Trujillo's regime and its impact on Dominican society. How is fear instilled and maintained? How and when do characters exercise agency and/or challenge Trujillo’s rule? Be sure to quote at least four examples from the text. Closely analyze the examples you cite with attention to the relationship between power, resistance, and identity. 2) Using In the Time of the Butterflies, consider how the Mirabal sisters navigate expectations surrounding gender, sexuality, and relationships. What constraints do they face? Conversely, in what ways do they pursue and/or experience freedom? Be sure to quote at least four examples from the text. Closely analyze the examples you cite with attention to the relationship between gender, agency, and freedom. 3) Using In the Time of the Butterflies, consider how the novel explores the relationship between writing, trauma, and memory. How do characters remember, narrate, and/or cope with violence and loss? What role does storytelling play in preserving individual and collective histories? Be sure to quote at least four examples from the text. Closely analyze the examples you cite with attention to the relationship between trauma, memory, and narrative.
This аssessment is tо be cоmpleted оn аn individuаl basis, no collaboration. This assessment is timed. You have 60min to complete it. It is recommended you take the questions in order. If you jump around you are likely to miss a question. It contains 3 coding problems that will be manually graded. The highest you can score on the auto-graded portion is 79. Do not attempt to compile or test any of the coding questions in PennSim. This would be a waste of time that you will not have. You will not be penalized for small syntax issue. Just use a text editor to do the coding portions. You should be using Chrome as your browser and the browser should be full screen width and at 100% zoom factor. If you need to contact me (which you shouldn't) I will be on the "General" channel of MS Teams (do not use email...too much latency and I won't be monitoring it) Just relax and answer the questions deliberately and thoughtfully without 2nd guessing too much.
