Be sure to examine: what kinds of crops Mississippians were growing, why, and how they were growing them; the development and functioning of the problematic sharecropping system; the various obstacles that farmers faced and how they attempted to overcome them; natural disasters (insects, floods, storms) and their effects on the agricultural economy of the state; and the long process of turning Mississippi’s economy from a primarily agricultural one to a more balanced system. Cover all eras in your discussion – don’t simply focus on the World War II era, for example. Be sure to provide an in-depth analysis of the entirety of the time period.
