Thomas Miss Homer ENG 101 - 300 6 May 2026 Community Colleges in the Community      Community College in the community is thriving. Everyone wants to go to college. No, everyone needs to go to college. So community college is a big hit. Community college is cheaper, community college is welcoming, and it has bright professors so we all learn. Sadly, schools are slowly closing down in America's community, but community college is creating more programs and camps for our students. So, do not get scared! Because I did! Schools are doing so well, that we close them down and make more, smaller, programs and camps to help the community. These  programs teach life lessons that we need. These camps can support any age and any race. My personal big program that i wanted to join was the peace core. I wanted to travel and see people and help, like usual.  I did not get in the peace core because it is now dangerous.      The community college that I go to has a program called "Tomato Patch". I want to tell you about this program because it interest me. So with this program the students come together and garden. I am sure we all know the importance of gardening and we all know the good and horror stories of cooking! Let me teach you. With cooking we learned how to make and take an order at a store. At the store we learned to wait and respect each other. In the kitchen and table we learn manners and how to be clean . In the kitchen we also learn to be very careful with wet floors and knives. And then, when we garden we learn the whole world! This is how important a small program like the "Tomato Patch" can effect someone.  Gardening is our whole life. No matter who you are, you eat. This is what I personally learned working in the food industry.      Anyways, back to schools closing! Schools closing is killing people on the inside. Schools closing is hurting the people. They do not know what to do when they hear a schools is closing! Like in this video "Closing the Gap" we quote a man who is sad about school closing. "It's not just education it's literally the center of community for so many people" (Columbus 0:14). So, He feels how I feel about school. Schools is where we learn what we will do with our lives. With out school I lay in bed all day and rot. School can make the whole community racist or it can make the community depressed. School has so much power in our lives. When I see a school I think of where my future children will be. School sculpts our future. I have another quote from the same video "Closing the Gaps", where they say how much it hurts when a school is closed. "When a school closes a community doesn't just lose a building. It looses stability, it loses history, it loses it's heart. A place where relationships are built and futures are imagined" (Columbus 0:53). This is how we feel when a school closes down. On a lighter note, this person did not know that a program was coming to help them. These quotes show me how people think about school and school leaving.      Now lets see how it feels when a program or camp comes to the community! Everyone is grateful. Programs and camps will give us back the energy of learning. We can go home and have our mother teach us or we can always read books. But the building for us to come together and learn is more culture for us. Plus our friends all came from school. Also, a stay at home mom is rare, and have always been rare, according to history. The rumor is a home school child doesn't work because the mother can not do that much work on her own. The child or person learning needs different people to talk to them. They need different tones, different timings, and different faces. One child is a million bucks and a hundred years.       A program that came to my school was the D.A.R.E program. Personally, my community always kept its schools so our programs reached out to us through the schools. Anyways, with the D.A.R.E program we learned not to drink alcohol and not do drugs early. I was in this program in 4th grade and I still remember it. The mascot was a brave lion that told us not to do drugs. This program taught us different ways to say no to drugs. This program made us act out different plays on stage so we were prepared to fight off drug dealers. This one program I remember as a kid.      The world is changing so the school system had to change with it. We had to make another program! We are getting more and more young thugs. Youth that ends up in jail. Ones who do not believe the system and want to leave. The main question to these people are "Where are you going to go?". It is so sad to see someone try and run away. It is like talking to a bird.  I read this article about a camp that help the bad kids. The quote explains the work the law enforcement had to do with the school instead of the school being able to handle the bad kids. This is why the schools are being closed, because of bad kids.  "These changes, along with increased strategic law enforcement activities in the local high school, doubled the work load of the juvenile justice system in three short years" (Kooi 1). This is a horrible story of how law enforcement had to do something special for a community. In this particular article the community is in Michigan! That is the USA that needs help! So, this is a horrible story of a community, but this camp worked. "The camp that partners with local officials in youth diversion programs stand to become a valuable resource to the local community" (Kooi 3). The great thing about USA is that these communities are not let down. At least we do not take it as far as having hundreds of homeless people or criminals on the streets. The people in Michigan got saved.  My word is small but their souls got saved.      So someone clueless might ask "why keep these programs"? The answer is to help our people, help us, this is what we live for. To help. The new programs are so helpful to the community that America will make more and include everyone. America has a big arm waving people over.  The same article about camps helping Michigan states, "Camps that partner with their communities not only are good neighbors , but also assist in offering serves that help solve local  problems" (Kooi 1). This should enlighten you because when you are having trouble just know that help is around the corner. We do not have to take drastic measures as one person. Someone, our neighbor, is there when we are "alone". The next town over. This next quote from the Michigan camp explains the group of people that helps the bad kids. The group was some of the best authority in the community. They all came together to work on these kids. "This "Diversion team" world to create an effective program to educate young offenders in Newaygo County" (Kooi 2). Personally I never dealt with a program this bad. So, I feel like I can work a program. I feel as though I have the right attitude to push people to do better things with their time. This is what programs do with people. Switch their minds to do better things for others.     In conclusion,  Community Colleges are doing well keeping up with  society and helping. Schools are closing but they are being replaced with more  knowledgeable programs and camps. Community college is also different because it targets 18 years and older, all races, to come and join. Community college is the new and upcoming school, who studies it's students and then help them. This was President Obama's "no child left behind" program taking effect finally.    I can give you examples of the programs or help that my Community college gives.   My community college sends us a motivation email every Monday to make sure we are not slacking on what is important. This is a little push from authority. My schools knows this is what we need to stay motivated. The email even include a joke every Monday to make sure we smile. I like this because my community does not need much to listen. I am very proud of what is going on around me with a community college. The college is quite like a library. This is powerful because it is very hard to get people to respect a quite place. Everyone I met in this Community College acts like they go to college and acts like they will graduate. As I mentioned before, one of the programs provided by my Community College is a gardening program. I want to join this program because I have been working the food industry for about 10 years and there is still more to learn about food. I think the farm sold itself to everyone American. American's love to garden and love food. "Tomato Patch" is the program I am proud of from my Community College.      With that said, it is ok when schools close, when we have a program or camp as back up to keep us learning.
