ESSAY: EVOLUTION The spоtted kiwi is аn endаngered, flightless species оf bird nаtive tо New Zealand. In the early 1900s this species was on the brink of extinction because of introduced predators and hunting for their skins. In 1912, five individuals were captured from the wild and released on Kapiti Island, an island that up until 1912 did not have any kiwis living there. On Kapiti Island, the new population was fairly successful and today the population contains about 1200 individuals. Part 1. Research has demonstrated that the genetic structure of today's kiwi population on Kapiti Island is significantly different than the genetic structure of other populations of spotted kiwis living elsewhere in New Zealand. Discuss why the genetic structure of the Kapiti Island population is different than other kiwi populations.
