Americаn аuthоr Nоrmаn Maclean оnce wrote that "The nearest anyone can come to finding himself at any given age is to find a story that somehow tells him about himself.” We have covered a lot of writers this semester as we have moved our way down the buffet line of American literature! From Whitman and Dickinson through the literary periods of Realism, Regionalism, Naturalism, Modernism and Postmodernism. I want you to take a minute and think back over your experience this semester and select one of our reading selections from English 252 that - as Norman Maclean states above -- that you connected with, that somehow told you about yourself. Identify the author and the title and then explain briefly how/why you connected to the story or poem. Be as specific as possible as you describe the experience of reading it and how you understand yourself. Did it reaffirm your beliefs/values/views, or perhaps more interestingly, did it challenge them? Shoot for about 12-15 sentences. Your response is worth twenty (20 points). I want you to know how wonderful it was to be with you this semester; I hope that there was something in the class that will stay with you as you make your way. Dr. C.
